ORCID provides a persistent digital identifier system. ORCID ID is a unique 16-digit codewhich distinguishes you from every other researcher and, supports automated linkages between you and your professional activities ensuring that your work is recognized. 

In a case where two or more researchers have the same last name and initials, ORCID ID serves as the best identifier of the authors. 

Anyone who participates in research can register an ORCID ID for themselves free of charge, and you can use the same ID throughout your whole career - even if your name changes or you move to a different organization, discipline, or country. 

ORCID IDs are now used by hundreds of systems, and the chances are that you will be asked - or required - to provide your own ORCID ID, for example, while submitting a manuscript, applying for a grant, or setting up your institutional profile page. 

An ORCID account is used to keep your digital curriculum vitae and profile updated, which can be accessed anytime anywhere, thus saving time.

To open a personal ORCID account, the process involves registration on the ORCID website (https://orcid.org/register) by simply filling out your personal details. This process usually takes less than a minute. 

It is recommended that you provide your international passport spelling of your family name.

Once an account is opened, all your details, e.g., education, employment, publications, awarded grants, and other professional accomplishments, must be added.
