Welcome video

Dear student!

Welcome to the course. My name is Aram Bugaev and I work at the Smart Materials Research Institute. One of the main directions at our institute is to uncover the structure of different materials using different characterization methods but most of them are based on X-ray radiation (as well as synchrotron radiation).

I guess you all remember the famous X-ray image of a hand taken by Wilhelm Röntgen more than a century ago. Since that time, a great number of X-ray based techniques have been developed, and nowadays X-rays can do much more than this.

X-ray radiation is widely used in physics, chemistry, materials sciences, biology and many other fields. There are a great number of Noble prizes in history which would have been impossible without application of X-rays. So if you want to know how to use X-rays to solve your research problems this course is made for you!
